Two films fight it out for the top spot while 'Dredd' is dreadful Before this box office report goes deeper, baseball movies do not always fare well. They just do not. For every "Field of Dreams," there are more field of nightmares. In the Media by Tim O'Brien
Will audiences throw a curve by going to see Clint Eastwood? Talk about throwing a curve this weekend at the box office. Enter Clint Eastwood. Life is all about timing and this weekend "Trouble With the Curve" opens and it is the widest new release scheduled. In the Media by Tim O'Brien
'Resident Evil: Retribution' wins but 'The Master' steals box office talk
No matter what the spin will be as to whether audiences found their way back to theaters this weekend or that it is bouncing back, "The Master" shouldn't be overlooked. Perhaps one could throw in...
'The Words' doesn't speak as 'The Possession' repeats at box office
'Oogieloves' has worst opening as Batman bolts over $1 billion
When a movie opens in more than 2,000 theaters and it only hauls in a paltry $448,000, it needs a story on its own. So, here it goes.
To be fair, it did open on Aug. 29, so the number is for the weekend only. In the Media by Tim O'Brien
'The Words' will try
speak to audiences
Brutal first night DNC ratings and tonight, NFL starts...ouch!!! the mainstream spin is using the combined total on all channels and comparing (I admit, nice, but NOPE)...
Forget Honey Boo Boo, most things on TV last night beat the DNC...had to hear that last week, so equal time...NBC won the networks with 5.3 million, then CBS with 3.2 mil and ABC with 2.5...Brutal..cable coming. See, NBC wins the nets and will NOT be airing it tonight so they lose that chunk, too..who had the worse ratings???? a rerun on NCIS had 7 mil. AGT had 8.6 mil...see how silly that was last week??? head-to-head, NBC wins...that is all that really matters..but let's see if mainstream media notes the lousy numbers and their spin..if it was a story last week, it is this week, too. Be consistent.
Hmmm. NBC cannot cover the DNC in prime time on Sept. 5 - - it is the kickoff to the NFL season on NBC. Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants..football ratings will be HUGE...will beat convention even when you add up all the networks combined...Wednesday night is Bill Clinton's speech...football always rules the TV ratings...
UPDATE: Ratings last night (Sept. 5)...
Football - 21.81 million
Add up the following networks which covered the speech: and it only adds up to 16.3 million
CBS, 3.9 mil
ABC, 3.5 mil
MSNBC, 3.3 mil
CNN, 2.9 mil
Fox News, 2.7 mil
But, adding them up is a bit unfair since they must be broken up in order to figure in to the way we do those things. But, one network (NBC) had more than the others - combined. This will be ignored....football rules and it was a bit off last year's opener, too. Then, take the usual 4-5 million from NBC and then a tie might happen. Again, football on one network beats politics on many...and that is why they went with football.
'The Possession' possesses the number one spot in weak weekend Not much talk centered around movies this Labor Day weekend, and even with one day left on the holiday, break lights could be seen at the turnstiles.

New releases may not help box office but '2016' doing well
The box office is in the doldrums as kids head back to school and now, football is starting, so why no mention of the success of a documentary? After all, when headlines are scarce at the box office, one must look a little deeper.
