The Nanny State has hit stride once more with the announcement that some Chicago Public Schools will not allow students to bring home-made lunches or certain snacks to school. Now, on my radio show when the first nugget of news came out that there was an uproar over Ronald McDonald and with it, Happy Meals, I said enough already. Then the Happy Meal story hit again. Come on, the last time I ate one of the toys from a Happy Meal, I didn’t gain any weight. I somewhat in jest suggested, we, as the people who bring in the kids, actually eat more of that meal than they do. I wanted a major study on the amount of garbage in Playland to see just how much WE DOT NOT EAT. The kids are running around and barely eating an entire meal. Well, turns out a study was done at some schools and it found the food being thrown out is the good food. I love it. Put in all the rules and regulations and we still want a Fluffernutter.
Anyway, this means more rules for the parents – and for the
most part, Baby Boom parents. Come one, remember when you were kids? Lighten up and I do not mean the weight. It also means no more food from home, even if it’s
cheaper, I suppose, than buying those tater tots in the cafeteria.
If I were you I would look for that medical reason to have a home-made lunch brought in right now, before it’s too late.
LITTLE PRICE SIDEBAR: I went grocery shopping the other day and I did cut back - - on the good food. Ramen noodles and Mac and Cheese simply go farther -- and are cheaper. Like environmental changes, make it cheap and we will follow. Until then, pass the Big Mac, until they ban me from eating it when I’m driving. That cannot be too far off. You like pets in your car, just wait.
