In an effort to get ahead of the Upfronts, here are the lists of shows NOT coming back that I could track down so far. Many of my shows are on the Bubble so stay tuned to those as well. They include “Parenthood,” “V” and “Detroit 1-8-7.”
“As the World Turns”
“Live to Dance”
Notes: Each week this network has the most shows in the Top 20 but ABC is gaining, while Fox still has “Idol.” Oh yeah, Fox had a show called “The Super Bowl” as well. It seems as if a show on CBS may get axed even though it may be doing above average as far as the other networks are concerned. We will see how “CSI: Miami” turns out. As for “Two and A Half Men,” nah, I will skip it. The half man is no longer a kid, so let’s move on.
“All My Children”
“One Life to Live”
“Skating With the Stars”
“The Whole Truth”
Notes: It pains me to see those soaps heading into the sunset because it’s a great place for actors and actresses to get their start, or have a stable career. “My Generation” gets my vote for the show in which I could, in now way, live anywhere around, those characters.
NBC: UPDATE MAY 11: "Law and Order: LA" is done
“Breakthrough With Tony Robbins”
“Friday Night Lights”
“Last Comic Standing”
“The Paul Reiser Show”
Notes: This list could have been much longer than it is. And as a coworker noted, “They didn’t even give me a chance to hate ‘The Paul Reiser Show.’” This network needs help so here’s a thought. If CBS gives up on a few shows, go ahead and take them. You cannot do any worse. No matter how hard they tried, “Friday Nights Lights” burned out. The real good shows better return but may not. They are “Parenthood” and “The Event.”
Fox: UPDATE MAY 11: Out are "The Chicago Code" and "Lie To Me"
“The Good Guys”
Notes: It looks like “Fringe” will be back and I can hope “The Chicago Code” does as well. I have to admit, when it first aired, I didn’t care for the show, but it has grown on me. Unlike the rebooted “Law and Order: LA” on NBC. I’m pretty sure we can add a burned out “Traffic Light” to the list. In case you need to know, “Family Guy” will be back for season 10.
“18 to Life”
“Smallville” – series ending after 10 years.
Notes: I was on board “Smallville” when the network was called The WB and just starting to spread its wings. I stayed with this fine show. I also got hooked on “Supernatural” and am happy to see that return next season. My guilty pleasure, “Gossip Girl” will see some cast changes next season but will return.
