As "Superman: Man of Steel" gets ready to not only land in Illinois, but take up residence here for a while, it's time for those casting notices to go out.
But first, another casting item to get out of the way. Those who live around the Chicagoland area know of the Drew Peterson case, which is far from being over. Now comes word that Rob Lowe will attempt to play him in a Lifetime movie. Let's face it, Peterson is darn lucky to get that one. Lowe as Peterson, come on, not even close.
Now, to the matter at hand. Months ago, when rumors were flying about that those involved in "Superman" would be coming to Illinois to film the reboot of the franchise, hopes were really high. Then word came that it was true. Some still did not believe it because no "official" word was forthcoming. However, under the code name "Autumn Frost" it was revealed. Now, "Autumn Frost" needs to fill the roles of extras. In other words, get ready to work on a project which comes loaded with much Hollywood intrigue, whether it's a hit or not. It's
"Superman" for crying out loud. Oh, before we go on. These are for paying gigs. As things progress, Plano will take the place of Smallville and a nice twist to this casting call has been included. On June 22, the call goes out for Plano residents only, from 6-8 p.m. at Plano High School.
Open casting calls are for June 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the DePaul University Naperville campus. The other open call will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 25 at the Chicago Academy for the Arts.
According to the casting office, located in Aurora, the film will shoot in
Plano, Chicago and the Naperville area. Most, if not all, in August and
September, it was noted. If one wants to be an extra on the film, be prepared to be available when asked and for long hours, if possible.
As far as open calls like these, all types are needed. In fact, when shoots of this magnitude take place, not only extras are needed, but photo doubles and stand-ins will be cast.
A special call for an infant (actually twins) for the young Clark Kent, most likely. The announcement also was looking specifically military and athletic types. Again, all types will be needed in the end.
This project is Hollywood coming to the Midwest and not some film short or documentary, or even a bit part of a film being shot. This $175 million budgeted film will bring forth a great deal of work to Illinois and something to talk about after it's done.
