Just confirmed 3.23.13...I have just confirmed that Gov. Quinn from Illinois was in Hollywood Friday night seeking to reach out for more productions for the state...fresh with its tax incentive...he met with, according to Reel Chicago, Jane Lynch, Jim Belushi, Joe Mantegna, Roland Mesa, Chaz Ebert, Billy Zane and Bill Zwecker (Chicago Sun-Times)...it was titled "An Evening with Pat Quinn"....while much of the state is in shambles and bill cannot be paid, plus plenty of pension problems, the lure of Hollywood is never far from the governor's mind. On that note, summer in the city will be burning with the business of show. There is “Transformers 4." With its huge budget and production staff it is to to bring with it spending power. Also, “Divergent" is ready to go into production April 9 through June 30. That film stars Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet. Look for a May 2014 release date for that one. “Jupiter Ascending.” Filming reportedly starts June 24 for four-to-five weeks. Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum and Eddie Redmayne. "Transformers 4" also shoots in Michigan...flush with tax incentives, too.
Just try it. I give casting call notices for Illinois since I grew up in the state. When I first moved to L.A. in the 1980s, I worked this circuit to get a better understanding of the business of show. I came back at age 30 and worked on newspapers and radio and newspaper syndications in Illinois, and more. Always kept my hand in many pots. Now, going back to Illinois from L.A. and back again...it goes on, when it can. I now do it more of a hobby as I approach my mid-50s. But, I like to update how the business works for those who are thinking the same thing I did after college. Going there was like getting a Master's Degree in the business, with on-hands work. While working as extra/stand-in and bit played in Hollywood, I also worked on newspapers (in the 1980s/early90s) and had a corner on the newspaper syndicate market for trivia and information/lists.
