"The Equalizer" came in low as well...just over 20 million. ..third lowest...
Are the Super Bowl TV numbers deceiving?
The 96.4 million number you see is
for all platforms; CBS had 90.7 million
UPDATE: The noise about the ratings are out. The woke culture and the fighting (on both sides) is the real reason for the ratings going lower. It is being reported that 96.4 million viewers tuned in - that is on all platforms, so the noise I noted is happening. The CBS numbers alone are the number to compare the list below to, not the combined ones. Note: CBS and Nielsen reported this on the overall numbers - “including the CBS Television Network, CBS Sports and NFL digital properties, Buccaneers and Chiefs mobile properties, Verizon Media mobile properties and ESPN Deportes television and digital properties.” The New York Post added that part of that number does include 5.7 million for streaming. Again, this is deceiving and leads me to believe this is the new norm. With streaming, we should be getting higher numbers when combined. The TV network should be stable and then you add the rest of the platforms, thus a higher total. It makes no sense to suggest those who watched on TV for 55 years would suddenly decide to stream it, or watch it on another platform. Those viewers are stagnant (that includes me). The other platforms should be new viewers and younger ones. At 5.7 million, while a record for streaming the game, it is relatively low for such a hyped event. Surely the idea of streaming is not to simply transfer linear viewers to another platform. Other forces are at play for the decline. I am constantly being told that the lower numbers are because there are more ways to watch. Again, if that is true, then why aren't the streaming numbers at 10-20 million?
More: it does look like the numbers for JUST CBS are 90.7 million. See Adweek here.
Before: it is 4 p.m. ET on the Monday after the game - - and yet no ratings. Why? We usually have them by now - at least the prelims...All in all, the delay lasted until Tuesday (Feb. 9) morning. WHY? Nielsen spokesperson: “Super Bowl numbers are still being processed and verified. We anticipate that final viewing figures, which will include Out Of Home (OOH) viewing, will be available to the media tomorrow. We will update the press and the industry accordingly when a final timeline is confirmed.”
BEFORE: No matter what you hear about ratings (viewership), it could be the standard noise. Yes, we are in a pandemic. Yes, we have streaming now so the way in which we watch is so much different. Yes, all of that and more. But, the Super Bowl is the most-watched show every year. No matter what, the game is the most viewed thing we see on TV, bar none and it is never even close. But, they will never tell the truth as to why the numbers are falling. If people really are streaming so much, the numbers should go much higher when adding them all up. But, that is not happening so something else is going on.

- The halftime show usually has more viewership than the game. However, that is for a short period of time. The game totals are the average for the entire telecast.
- The all time chart is here. The first game scored 24.4 million on NBC in 1967; add in another 26.75 million on CBS. Yes, it was on two networks.
- Chicago vs New England in 1986 had the first over 90 million (92.57 million). The next time it went over 90 million was in 1993. Bears had the record until 1996.
