* Yes, it was on Easter night, but that could mean more people gathering.
TNT - 450,000 viewers
TBS - 510,000 viewers
Total: 960,000 ...not even one million.
* Award shows are public relations campaigns designed to boost show business and the movies that are nominated. If nobody watches, what is the point?
* The show was one hour so the idea that a long, drawn out show hinders viewership falls away.
*SAG Awards - a no buzz and too much of a Zoom taped event. Bad on many levels. Why Hollywood is lecturing us about what movies they insist we watch with the SAG Awards, people were not watching that show. They were watching a movie Hollywood would never award, "Godzilla vs Kong." HBO MAX on Sunday night exploded with viewers and movie theaters saw an uptick as well over the long Easter Weekend. ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Yields Largest HBO Max Audience Yet.."The Ten Commandments" saw four million viewers on April 3 despite being up against the Final Four. See here. IMAX also saw big numbers. So, let's get back to watching movies in theaters again, not just streaming. I can only hope that the pandemic helped us get tired of doing everything on a screen at home and want us to get back to concerts, ballgames and movies again. They add up both TNT and TBS to get the number - and it is still low - really low.
UPDATE: The SAG Awards were on and nobody noticed. It was a lifeless, taped show was bad. It seemed they could not really find enough people to talk between awards and the same folks came back time and time again. Yes, many award shows are long and boring but this is no substitute for that. The Oscars have said a Zoom-like show is not what they want and that is good. There are other ways to cut down a show, but they must be live. There is no way this was just taped the night before. Not all of it, at least.
- Now, does anybody understand a show like "Schitt's Creek," which has been on the air for quite some time, and only now does it do so good. Since the Emmys, it has all but swept through award season. It is either really good and was overlooked all these years, and this was overdo. Or the other shows are so lame this time around that it was a no-brainer to give it to them.
- "The Crown" is something else. There has to be something better, right?
- Award season is a perfect example of group think taking shape. Watch as it progresses.
- Chadwick Boseman was a great actor. Sad to have lost him.

SHOW IS ONLY AN HOUR THIS YEAR AND PRE-TAPED - There was a time when award show buzz would be all around. Not so much anymore. Remember, an award show is a PR campaign. Hollywood needs eyes on their products so do not be fooled when they say ratings do not matter. They do. What good is it to make a movie if nobody goes? Or the audience is so small, that it rivals anybody with a You Tube channel. No buzz and no real audience. Well, the SAG Awards are this Sunday and ouch, no buzz. Now, this show usually rates low with TV ratings as well. But, come on, all those stars and nobody wants to see them. Perhaps, overexposure is hitting. In 2013, the show on TNT and TBS garnered 5.3 million (see here). In 2019, it fell to 2.68 million. Our so-called movie and TV stars cannot grab an audience. Huh? A pre-taped show will be even worse - in and out and done. On this idea, co-executive producer Todd Milliner noted to Variety, “We’re looking at trying to do a unique award ceremony in an hour and leave people saying, which they very rarely do [with an awards show], ‘Man, I wish we had more." The old adage in show business is "always leave them wanting more," but this will likely fall flat. People will not even know it is on and when they do, and perhaps want to see some of it, it will be over. The show will be taped the day before, winners and all the rest, Variety noted. One just has to wonder if someone will spoil the fun and release the winners with a timely leak. They hand out 13 awards and all of them will be known before it airs Sunday night. Hmmm.
