Update: 6.9 million total viewers is terrible. That is why no major headlines and discussions anymore on this show. From a show that used to get 15-20 million, it sunk to that dismal number.
DAY AFTER: EARLY NUMBERS ARE BRUTAL. Last year the award show had a NFL lead in and came away with 18.3 million viewers. This year, they are well below and they are keeping the final numbers until Tuesday. It usually goes like this: the early numbers on Monday morning and then the adjusted figures by the end of that day. So, something is happening how. The Super Bowl went the same way. And they are now adding up all potential views like streaming. So, when comparing a number today to the past is impossible. So, that could be the reason for the delay.
No excuses here, either. Please do not suggest that we have more ways to watch now and thus, the numbers are low, across the board. This should not be the case for an event. And being in a pandemic should mean more viewers, not less.
There are more TV awards with the Golden Globes and since that is the case, a show with TV shows in them should be more interesting since we watch them on TV.
- Yes, Tracey Morgan flubbed the word soul. He said "Sal," I think. And comedy actors made fun of it as well. We all heard it.
- From a TV viewer aspect, it was a bad show. Who really wants to spend 3 hours on a Zoom call. Well, unless you are a student being forced to now?
- There will come a time when the nominees will lash out at the hosts for their often cruel jokes - aimed at them. Hosting for award shows have turned into roasts. After all, that has happened to others all across the country.
- Thank heavens they brought doctors out to do a comedy bit for the show. And filled the audience with healthcare workers. Please sense the sarcasm here.
- Can we not be simply entertained? Every single TV show or movies has to have deep meaning. It is good for us to have many that do, but not every one. Even the comedies can knock you over the head. As a kid, I could not stand "All in the Family," and as an adult, I would never consider watching it.

The opening - the audience was filled with first responders, likely because the celebrities wanted nothing to do with it. If celebrities cannot be wined and dined and adored, why show up?
- Oh, definitely canned laughter.
- They are doing too many jokes about how bad the awards are, yet they are here, hosting. They are Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
- It is really hard watching the Zoom-style screens.
- The audiences sound hyped. By that I mean canned applause, laughter, etc. Or people planted to make louder noise. It is kind of like sport events that piped in crowd noise during the pandemic.

- If Hollywood hated them so much, why do they let them continue?
- There are 87 foreign press members this year. Yet, they have so much power. That part can easily change. Why so small a number?
- Award shows are public relations at its best, so there is always going to be cries of groups looking for change of better representation. And why not?
- NBC runs the show so they can pressure them and it is about TV shows and movies. Do the actors really want to stop praising their peers? Not likely, so they launch complaints yet still participate.
- I cannot imagine people wanting to tune in to his mess in the making, but we will see. I will watch so you do not have to.

- There will be no audience eating dinner and drinking on live TV. Just a flow of presenters and winners, slobbering over each other on virtual stages on two coasts.
- Those who win will not get their trophies. That will happen later.
- Each nominee has a camera sent to their homes. If they want they can set it up. And they can dress up, too. At least they can feel how seniors felt at their graduations - and it sucked.
